My family love to spend our time outdoors exploring the different public parks around KL to breathe in the fresh air, connect with mother nature by grounding, feed the fishes, have a picnic and more. The list of outdoor parks below includes some of which we have personally visited and enjoyed.

1. KLCC Park (Best Park in KL City Centre)
Located adjacent to Suria KLCC mall, the KLCC Park is a great place to bring your family to chill or for a walk around the 1.3km jogging track. KLCC Park is a good location to view the Petronas Twin Towers. Check out the FREE wadding/swimming pool and outdoor playground available that is great for children.
Don’t miss out on the FREE colourful musical light and sound water fountain show at 8pm, 9pm and 10pm daily at Symphony Lake.

2. Perdana Botanical Garden (First Large Scale Recreation Park in KL)
Once called the KL Lake Gardens, Public Gardens and Taman Botani Perdana, this large public park in the middle of KL city used to be a recreational park but has now turned into a lovely botanical garden.
Some of the best features in this park include the Orchid Garden, Hibiscus Garden, Sunken Garden, Herb and Spice Garden, Herbarium and Deer Park.
We love visiting the Botanical Gardens! My husband and I even took our pre-wedding photos in this beautiful park.

3. Titiwangsa Lake Garden
Visit the Titiwangsa Lake Garden where you can capture a great photo of your family with the Petronas Twin Towers and Titiwangsa Lake. Try out fishing or rent a paddle boat or kayak to go out on the lake.
Children can play to their heart’s content at the Titiwangsa Splash Park and the outdoor playground.
Admire the scenery and walk along the canopy walk to spot birds chirping away. For something exciting, find your way out at the butterfly maze, go for a horse ride or even watch RC car races.

4. KL Forest Eco Park (Best Forest Reserve in The Heart of KL)
Explore one of the oldest permanent forest reserves in Malaysia, the KL Forest Eco Park with your family. The canopy walk is one of the main highlights here. At KL Forest Eco Park, you can find many floras, including rare herbs and giant bamboo grasses. Look out for the Long-tailed Macaque and Silvered Langur. Guided tours are available for park goers.
Our family spent about 40 minutes walking around during our visit and enjoyed the view.
Ride on the KL Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus, which will bring you to KL Tower, which is just beside the park.

5. TTDI Park (Best Park For Families in TTDI)
TTDI park is a popular spot for family outings on the weekends.
We spent most of our time at the Family Recreation Area (Taman Lembah Kiara) where there is a children’s playground and fitness stations. The main highlight for us was the small stream that flows through the park which my toddler enjoyed very much. Kids can get their feet wet and watch tadpoles and small fishes while parents can enjoy a picnic at the side.
The Arboretum Zone of the park has many walking and hilly hiking trails for those that are more adventurous.

6. Kepong Metropolitan Park (Best Park in Kepong)
Taman Layang-Layang Metropolitan Kepong is one of the largest recreational parks in Malaysia, Kepong Metropolitan Park is one of our family’s favourite parks in Klang Valley. It is a great location for those who love kite flying. You can purchase the kite from the vendor outside the park if you don’t have one.
Children can play at the children’s playground or have fun cycling and walking around the tracks. It is a great place to relax and enjoy the greenery with your family.

7. The Central Park at Desa Park City (Best Dog Park in KL)
Desa Park City is one of the top pet-friendly parks in Klang Valley, great for parents to bring their kids and pawrents to bring their furkids for a walk.
Enjoy quality time with the family by having a picnic in the park. Kids can enjoy themselves at the playground section too.
Check out the weekend bazaars at The Waterfront and Plaza Arkadia, where you can go for a meal after that.

8. KL Bird Park (Best Park For Bird Watching)
With about 200 species of birds in the KL Bird Park, it is a great place to learn more about different species of birds. The main feature of the KL Bird Park is its free-flight walk-in aviary concept where birds are able to roam around freely in certain areas.
Don’t miss out on the bird feeding sessions for different specific species of birds including ostrich, hornbill and eagle. You can even take photographs with the birds.

9. Permaisuri Lake Gardens (Best Park in Cheras)
Permaisuri Lake Gardens is beautiful with low trees and shrubs. There are jogging tracks and a football field for the public to use.
You can set up a picnic for bonding time or do some exercise at the exercise stations. Bring your children along and let them play at the playground. Check out their main attraction, the Laman Iskandar Puteri, where you can find flowers and a fountain.

10. Bukit Jalil Recreational Park (Best Public Park in Bukit Jalil)
One of our family’s most frequented outdoor parks near us. There are many interesting sections to check out in this outdoor park.
What we like:
- International garden which showcases miniature architecture from 10 countries including a traditional Malaysian house, Iranian courtyard garden, Japanese tea house, Holland garden with a mini Dutch windmill and more.
- Foot reflexology area
- Many jogging and walking paths
- Exercise stations
- 3 lakes
- Children playground
- Heliconia garden

11. Sentul Park (Best Park in Sentul)
This park is a calm and peaceful green oasis with a lake in the middle of Sentul near Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC). You will pass some old colonial buildings when you make your way to the park’s entrance. Spend some time observing the fishes in the koi fish pond.

12. KL Butterfly Park (Best Butterfly Park in Malaysia)
KL Butterfly Park will be a great place to explore and learn more about the butterfly world. There are about 5000 live butterflies, and various plants and insects in this park. You will see them dance and fly around freely. There is also a section where you can see different spiders, giant beetles and grasshoppers. Do allocate to spend about an hour here.
Note: Avoid visiting if it is a rainy day due to slippery grounds.

Taman Tasek Varsiti is a man-made lake where you can enjoy a green oasis in the city. Great for walking and jogging in the morning or late afternoons. You can explore the other activities including kayaking, birdwatching, and flying fox too.

This is a beautiful park with a small lake located in Datuk Keramat, Wangsa Maju. Many facilities available including reflexology area, children playground, outdoor futsal court, outdoor gym, and many open field areas for picnics.
